The disease usually presents with swollen lymph nodes which can often be confused with infection during initial differential diagnosis. Delays in diagnosis can therefore be common if the practitioner treats with antibiotics and waits for the lymphadenopathy to subside. This approach results in crucial delays since lymphoma develops very rapidly. Currently diagnosis of lymphoma requires invasive procedures such as fine needle aspiration or excision of the affected lymph node. Since the affected dog appears otherwise well, it is understandable that the vet would choose to postpone invasive work until more information becomes available.
The Tri-Screen Canine Lymphoma Assay helps overcome these difficulties by providing a same day turnaround test which is able to differentiate between lymphadenopathy of non-malignant origin and lymphoma. Since the test requires only a small amount of blood, the test helps the vet make rapid decisions about diagnostic procedures and treatments when confronted with a dog exhibiting swollen lymph nodes.
